Who Should I Vote For?
The 2020 Election is inching closer and closer, we are under three weeks from voting day and I know many of you don’t know who is on the ballot let alone who to vote for. So that’s where I come in to give you some HazieThoughts insights in how to vote responsibly.
I’m not a registered democrat but my parents are and the good people of the Democratic party in Prince George’s County sent out this letter to help constituents with who they should consider voting for.
When I first saw this I was kind of intrigued but then I flipped it over and it really didn’t sit right with me.
Here’s the list of name of candidates, as well as ballot questions and offices up for election with what I’m surmising is who they want you to vote for.
I personally have nothing against any of the candidates named above who have a vote next to their respective names. It just feels as though, to me, this is how you get the choice of Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump for President or why people think the Democratic party rigged the nomination for Joe Biden. I’m also tired of having to vote for the lesser of two evils.
Because of that, I’ve found a few resources that I think can be helpful for the elections taking place this year in P.G. County. Also did you know circuit judges can get 10-year terms, go vote, but back to resources.
BALLOTPEDIA is an online source that has information on ALL candidates across the nation in on all elections. Once you get outside of the top 100 locations the information isn’t as in depth but general information and access to websites with further info is available.
As Board of Education seats are up for grab in the county, Prince George’s County Advocates For Better Schools has done a wonderful job of giving candidates a platform to reach voters directly. Here are two interviews with candidates Shayla Adams-Stafford and Bryan M. Swann, Board of Education, District 4.
Outside of the election PGCAFBS has worked greatly to keep citizens in the know about all the latest news regarding the school system. Here's an article they wrote on talks regarding Police in public schools, Discussion on Police in Schools.
Moving onto the questions. Question number one - Constitutional Amendment State Budget Process, to ME it seems more of a reaction to the six years the normally democratic Maryland having a GOP governor. The Baltimore Sun however does a great job of explaining in detail what a change of the law would mean.
Question two, Commercial Gaming Expansion Referendum - would essentially make sports betting legal in the state of Maryland. The added revenue provided would go to the state’s Education Trust Fund and then to the public school system. The people of PG County have first hand experience with this, as the MGM casino was opened in December 2016. In 2017 the Baltimore Sun did an overall review of the gaming profits and how it trickled down to public school systems and you can decide if it was worth the investment.
Hopefully this info provided makes. it easier on your voting journey. Let the odds be in your candidates favor.
