Speech Club: A New Club During Pandemic

One thing that quarantining during a pandemic has allowed for are new ways of interacting with our friends and loved ones. Whether it be a happy hour via video or social distanced parties. We’ve found new ways to have old fun.

One thing that I’ve been part of since mid quarantine or pandemic (however you see it) is a speech club. Like a Book Club, we pick different speeches and/or themes and focus on the subject matter of the speech. Questions are posed for each speech and it’s a weekly hour plus session of quality banter.

Going into our fourth month the club has become a little community of us who are looking to share thoughts and ideas of the world during such turbulent times.

Some speeches we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing so far.

Paul Robeson speaking to KPFA radio in 1958.

Angela Davis, how does change happen at the University of California 2007.

Malcolm X, 1964 NY Mississippi Freedom Rally speech

I think what I enjoy the most about the club is the learning from others that happens. From perspective to resources it feels good in a time where we suppose to be apart feeling connected, especially to people who I may not have known or met otherwise.

Every Wednesday, speech club is poppin and the banter is high. Tell a friend to tell a friend. You might even start your own.
