Amy Coney Barrett Was Always Going To Get Confirmed

The Senate will be confirming Amy Barrett as the third Supreme Court justice under the Trump administration by the evening of Monday, October 26, 2020. The confirmation will now give the Supreme Court six conservative leaning judges out of nine, ultimately making the highest court in the land a conservative leaning institution.

I’ve been reading a lot lately on the Civil War and late nineteenth century U.S. politics and in doing so I naively thought something of that nature could come about in this day and age, seeing that we are in unprecedented times currently. Well, I was wrong and it looks like the future of our democracy has been shaped for the future to come and election day is still on the horizon.

THE HILL currently has a great article explaining some of the last minute hurdles the GOP has had to face in making sure Amy Barrett would see her shot at a confirmation vote in front of the Senate. There was one point that I believe is most important in looking at this particular nomination process.

But Democrats have acknowledged that, absent the help of four GOP senators, they are powerless to prevent Republicans from placing Barrett on the court just days before the election and in time to take part in the Nov. 10 case that could determine the fate of the Affordable Care Act.

Amy Coney Barrett confirmation was just the latest example of the GOP proving or showing rather that the decisions they make politically are motivated by self interest and preservation, and not the well being in regards to a majority of the citizens in the country. We don’t know how Barrett will vote on matters such as separating children from their families or if climate change is a real issue but we do know is, a GOP executive branch and majority Senate is fast tracking her nomination in record time and during an election year.

It wasn’t going to matter how much screaming and last second maneuvering behind the scenes. Amy Barrett was always going to get her nomination and like a friend says - “The game is the game.”
