Later today the Miami Dolphins (4-4) are set to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-8) on Monday Night Football, but the nation’s focus is far from what will happen on the field. From when the story first broke to Incognito’s Fox Sports interview, and now to information revealed today, Jonathan Martin has been at the forefront of national headlines.
A source close to Martin as reported by ESPN’s Lisa Salters has stated the Stanford lineman is unlikely to return this season, but will in the future outside of Miami. Accusations of locker room harassment and hazing has divided the nation with the majority of current and former NFL players backing Incognito.
In a Fox Sports Interview Incognito stated “When words are put in a context, I understand why a lot of eyebrows get raised,” “But people don’t know how Jon and I communicate to one another. For instance, a week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me on my phone, ‘I will murder your whole f—ing family.’
Dolphins offensive lineman Mike Pouncey told ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” crew that he thought Incognito’s Sunday interview was “fantastic.”
“It was absolutely true,” Pouncey said. “[Incognito] was very sincere about a lot of things. He admitted when he was wrong and let the whole world know his side of the story.”
Martin will have a chance to respond as the NFL’s independent investigator Ted Wells will interview him later this week according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Tune in tonight on ESPN as pre-game coverage will surely center around the issue. For what’s it worth look for the Buccaneers to follow in the Jaguars’ footsteps and get their first win.
