Manchester United are set to clash with bottom of the table Sunderland on Saturday. However, David Moyes’ side currently sits a meager 12th in the table and will be looking to avoid 3 straight defeats in the Premier League. Furthermore, United have only managed 2 wins in their last 6 matches, but they will be looking to build on a well-earned point in the Ukraine against Shakhtar Donetsk. Wayne Rooney was not available for that match due to a shin injury, but should be fit enough to return to the side. Tom Cleverley had one of his better matches in awhile mid-week as well, and Moyes should retain the Englishman in the Starting XI.
Sunderland will be led by interim gaffer Kevin Ball who has emerged as a candidate to take the position full time. He told reporters “I spoke to the board earlier in the week and they said about taking Saturday’s game and then we would speak after, and I was quite happy to do that”. “Yes, some people might say, ‘You are better off getting it sorted out’, but ultimately, they have got a little window now.” Gus Poyet and Roberto Di Matteo have also been linked
Neither side has been particularly impressive, but I expect Man United to rebound from their devastating loss last week to West Bromwich Albion. Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie should get the nod up top and Rio Ferdinand will most likely be reinstated in the center of defense. Keep an eye out for Belgian starlet Adnan Januzaj as recent reports have signaled other clubs are circling to land the young prospect’s signature. Juventus, Manchester City, and Barcelona are some of the clubs rumored to be monitoring how contract discussions are going between Januzaj and United.
Sunderland had one of their best performances last week in defeat to Liverpool, but Manchester United should find goals aplenty against a weak Sunderland back-line. Jozy Altidore continues to struggle at the Premier League Level, but he represents a brand of striker that could addle the United defense. Bet the over on goals which should be slated at around 2 1/2 and take United to claim the 3 points.
Probable Starting Line-ups:
Sunderland: Westwood, Gardner, Colback, O’Shea, Cuellar, Ki, Giaccherini, Cattermole, Larsson, Johnson, Altidore
Manchester United: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fellaini, Cleverley, Carrick, Welbeck, Rooney, Van Persie
Scoreline: United 3-1 Sunderland
