Premier League: Predictions (Week 4)

Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace (Old Trafford)

Maraoune Fellaini is expected to make his Manchester United debut and feature in the starting eleven. In an article on ESPN FC, Moyes was quoted as saying “Every time I go watch Belgium I come away thinking Maraoune Fellaini is their best player.” The Glaswegian Gaffer will be hoping he  has found the midfielder United have yearned for, but another midfielder has been making headlines too. Shinji Kagawa is just looking to make the bench for this game as the “Free Shinji” movement is gaining steam, and after rejecting a season-long loan bid from Borussia Dortmund for the Japanese playmaker does David Moyes rate Kagawa. Ian Holloway Crystal PalaceHeadlines have not been kind to Crystal Palace either. A rumored rift between owner Steve Parish and Ian Holloway has been rejected by Parish, but a twitter outburst from Owen Garvan has put his place on the team in jeopardy. I expect United to bounce back from a lackluster display in a loss at Anfield. If Palace can not concede early they could make life difficult for a Rooney-less United, but the Red Devils are rightfully the heavy favorites.

Prediction: Man United 3-1 Crystal Palace

Spain Soccer Champions League

Stoke City vs. Manchester City (Britannia stadium)

Manuel Pellegrini will be without 5 players including 4 defenders when his City side travel to the Britannia this weekend. Stoke are currently 5th in the table and are tied on 6 points with City early into the season. The defeat to Cardiff was swept under the rug, but if City are unable to get all 3 points the fanbase will grow restless. One Stoke fan that will not be there is the idiot who set off a flare in the opener against Liverpool and got himself banned for life from all stadiums in Britain. A severe punishment, and that is what City forwards should expect when facing Ryan Shawcross and the Stoke back-line, punishment. I fancy Stoke to keep this game close until late and grab a goal on a set piece paving the way for a hard-fought draw.

Prediction: Stoke 1-1 Manchester City

Sunderland vs. Arsenal (Stadium of Light)

Arsenal’s record transfer fee Mesut Ozil will debut at the Stadium of Light as Arsenal are set to square off with Sunderland. As the Arsenal fan base grows more and more excited to see the German play the Sunderland faithful and players are just having to grow used to Paolo Di Canio’s style. He made that clear as he publicly told his players to get used to how he runs things. That transition is always made easier accompanied with a good string of results. However, with the aura surrounding Arsenal at this moment in time it will be tough for the Black Cats to play spoiler. I am very curious to see how the Arsenal 11 shapes up and where Mesut Ozil is utilized. He will be looking to have a perfect debut and I expect him to be involved in at least one goal somehow. Fancy the Gunners to take all 3 and remain near the top of the table.

Prediction: Sunderland 1-2 Arsenal

Everton vs. Chelsea (Goodison Park)

After taking $7 million pay-cut to rejoin Chelsea and Jose Mourinho, Samuel Eto’o finds himself in the EPL for the first time. The Real Madrid Youth System product could be the consistent forward the London club has craved. According to Soccebase, Eto’o has amassed over $75 million in transfer costs for his career, and Chelsea securing his services on a free could be quite a coup. Everton have begun the season with 3 draws in a row and a 4th would be a good result. Ross Barkley has been particularly bright for club and country and the Englishman will be looking to find the net. Last Season Chelsea did the double on Everton winning both fixtures 2-1. That would be a safe scoreline prediction going into this game, but the gulf between these 2 sides is greater than it was last year.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Everton
